Dark, dark November.
In Scandinavia we start losing the light during Oct-Jan, for a long period of time. As in, on some days the sun rises at 9 am and sets at 3 pm….
During this neverending time of darkness, we are forced to find our keys to see the light. Forced to fight depression and loneliness. Forced to stay happy. Forced to fight a little more, to see the benefits of our lives. Because, what else is the alternative?
Here’s my advice on how to fight the dark months
1. Training. There’s no better place to get your anger out than in your own training. I use my training to my benefit, whether it’s explosiveness or calm I’m longing for. There’s usually a lot of running, which is my very own free therapy session. My temple.
2. I try to get into new projects, events and processes.
3. Friends, family and good things to eat and drink helps too.
4. We need our support system strong. Hanging by the fire, staying in, staying close, snuggling(!), laughing(!), loving(!), not taking the people we have in our lives and/or things for granted. Because it’s in those small things and moments that we usually take for granted, that sort of just passes by, that is living. Those small things add up, to big things. Life.
5. Using the cold to our benefit is also a wonderful experiment, which is perfect for this time of the year (cold baths for example), and balancing that with much appreciated warmth afterwards. You experience the contrasts of being happy with feeling miserable, seeing the light and the dark at the same time, going through hot and cold, feeling like the most powerful person in the world. I love that, because it makes me feel alive! And in these times we need to remind ourselves what that really is, to us.
… This time of the year there’s a lot of reflections and changes going on. Maybe some new stuff coming your way too. Maybe, naturally, moving into a new year we look back on what has been and isn’t anymore.
I wont tell people not to look back, because then we’ll never realise how far we’ve come and where we are at now. So enjoy reflecting, but at the same time don’t forget to move forward into the new. That’s the exciting part, all of the new things coming our way that we don’t know and can’t learn from yet…..
Oh, I mentioned “good food”! Here’s a little teaser (more to come)!……
Persimmon/sharon Power. Get ready for a fibre boost! {inspired by @frukostfantasten who really introduced me to this fantastic and fun fruit}
- 1 persimmon/sharon fruit
- 1 dl (1/2 cup) oats
- About 2 dl (1 cup) vegetable milk (I always use Oatly)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon chickpea protein
- Cinnamon
- Mix it all up!
- Add cardamom on top and stir into the glass
- Enjoy a “grainy” while also milky and smooth smoothie, with or without toppings of your choosing! This is a classic goodie to add to your smoothie storage.
And last but not least… Here’s some pictures of the latest workshops!!!
